Portland, Ore. – Portland-based paycard company SOLE Financial and Vermont-based reforestation nonprofit One Tree Planted put their business partnership into action when they recently came together to plant over 1,000 trees in Mt. Tabor Park on March 24, 2018.
One Tree Planted organizes tree planting events globally, so when the opportunity came to participate in a hands-on tree planting with the organization in SOLE’s backyard, SOLE rallied. SOLE employees put shovels to dirt at the community tree planting event on Saturday, March 24, which was hosted in partnership with Willamette Riverkeepers, Portland Parks and Recreation, and the Bonneville Environmental Foundation. One Tree Planted partners with watershed organizations like these across the globe for logistical support, while donating resources to fund planting events.
Last July, SOLE partnered with One Tree Planted to incorporate reforestation into the SOLE business model through the SOLE Paperless Trees Project. SOLE now enlists One Tree Planted to plant 100 trees every time a SOLE client eliminates paper checks, honoring and increasing each client’s valuable contribution to the environment. Since July 2017, One Tree Planted has planted 10,000 trees for SOLE clients, but this was the first time the two organizations had the opportunity to join forces in physically planting trees together.
One Tree Planted Canopy Director, Diana Chaplin, said of the event, “Our business partnerships are truly essential to reforestation efforts around the world, and working with SOLE Financial has been a real pleasure. Not only are we planting new forests together, but we're also collaborators in spreading a bigger message that businesses can play a positive role in environmental restoration.”
SOLE Marketing Director, Lindsay Wilson, said of the partnership, “Sustainability through going paperless has always been essential to SOLE’s mission. About a year ago, we decided we wanted to celebrate the tremendous effort it takes our clients to go paperless, which is how the Paperless Trees Project was conceived. One Tree Planted is an incredible organization, and the way they’ve managed to make corporate social responsibility so accessible for companies like ours is incredible. We have One Tree Planted to thank for the 10,000 trees planted for SOLE’s clients.”
